Tracing our roots back to 1919, Insight Risk Management was founded on the principles of providing total coverage and service to our clients, which remain the foundation of our company today as we continue to prove ourselves and develop long-lasting relationships with our clients. Our staff includes some of the finest insurance and surety professionals found anywhere , as demonstrated by the exceptional breadth of experience and professional designations that they hold such as Commercial Insurance Counselor, Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Associate in Risk Management to name a few. We help our clients operate in all 50 states, as well as internationally, through our offices located throughout the Southeast. With a team of about 100 professionals organized into industry practices groups, we ensure that we deliver the best advice and coverage available in the marketplace.
Insight Risk Management was created in 2013 via the merger of McDonnell Insurance and Menard, Gates & Mathis, two of the leading agencies in the Mid-South. Finding a common culture that put our clients and their needs first, the principals all agreed that a combination would allow us to better serve our customers as we invest in the resources to benefit them as well as invest in our own growth. Insight Risk Management maintains two locations in the Memphis area, a location in Jackson, TN and a location in Nashville, TN.
McDonnell Insurance was founded in 1919 by Paul McDonnell upon returning from World War I, and 30 years later his sons Lewis and Jim joined him. Through the next 4 decades the agency flourished under Lewis and Jim’s leadership as they added clients and staff. Eventually, as their expansion continued, other key employees became shareholders and helped perpetuate the culture of the agency. Their model proved so successful that when Lewis’s son David McDonnell took over responsibility for managing the agency, additional brokers and clients required the agency to relocate to today’s present offices.
In 1983 Dale Menard worked with Gene Mathis and Bill Gates to form Menard, Gates and Mathis. As they grew and established a reputation for exceptional technical capabilities not only in insurance, but also for surety bonding, the breadth of their offering expanded to include commercial lines, personal lines surety bonding and benefits. The agency has continued to grow with the addition of key equity partners, Joe Evans, Alex Mathis and Van Menard. Using service as their key differentiator, their team grew from the core group of employees to about 50 at the time of the merger.
Today, Insight Risk Management remains an employee owned firm that takes great pride in knowing that our clients keep returning to us for advice year after year. As we evolve, add office locations and serve an ever greater number of clients, we remain privileged to know that our clients trust us to serve their needs.
